INDICATION OF ICING

Rough running, engine vibration
Loss of RPM

INADVERTENT ICING ENCOUNTER

Turn Pitot switch ON (if installed)
Turn back or change altitude to obtain outside temperature less conductive to ice
Pull Cabin heat FULL.
Open windshield defroster
Increase engine RPM to minimize ice formation on propeller
Watch the signs of carburetor ice and air filter ice
Plan to land nearest airport
Quarter of inch or more ice on leading edge of wing increase stall speed.
LEAVE FLAPS RETRACTED
If practicable open left window and scarp ice from windshield
On landing approach, perform forward slip to improve visibility
Approach at 65-75 IAS depending amount of accumulation

USE CARBURETOR HEAT IN

When ever flying below the green arc of tachometer
Icing condition
Flying through heavy rain
There will drop of 200 RPM in full carburetor heat due less dense air going to carburetor
Lean Mixture when use full carburetor heat
